The Newport String Project continues its signature Newport County Concert Series on Saturday, December 7th, 2pm at Newport Art Museum and Sunday, December 8th, 3pm at Four Corners Arts Center (Tiverton). This vibrant concert will feature the project’s resident ensemble, the Newport String Quartet, performing works by Franz Joseph Haydn, Antonín Dvořák and Tom Morrison.
The program opens with a lesser heard work from Haydn’s set of op. 50 Prussian quartets, the expansive String Quartet in C Major. The quartet will also perform Tom Morrison’s Sea Change (2018) – a musical evocation of Antarctica and meditation on the impact of climate change. The centerpiece of the program is Dvořák’s monumental String Quartet in G Major op 106 – a piece overflowing with the joy of his return to his homeland following his stint in America.
