McNally, whose paintings have been collected by the Newport Art Museum, The RISD Museum, as well as many institutions nationally, has been honing her skills and her uniquely expressive perspective on landscape for over 30 years. Working on large-to-monumental canvases, she has consciously evolved her practice away from relying on photographs as source material and toward visually re-interpreting her memories of the landscapes she has visited. The results are vivid abstract compositions that evoke and layer vast skies, jagged mountains, expressive waterfalls, clumsy rocks and clever networks of tree branches. McNally’s masterful use of rich color demands attention and commands the mood of the room. Her application of paint is richly textured with a tendency to explore varied and dynamic brushstrokes which present multiple fields of pattern throughout her canvases and encourage viewers to wander further into the depths of her paintings.
